Birds Observed at Esopus Bend

During recent visits to Esopus Bend Nature Preserve in October and November, ECC board member Steve Chorvas has reported observing a total of 34 species of birds.

Fox Sparrows were foraging with a mixed flock of sparrows comprised of (5) Song, (1) Swamp, (2) American Tree, and (50 +) White-throated Sparrows.

Additional birds observed throughout the preserve during a 45-minute time span were:

Great Blue Heron (1 fly-over, vocalizing)
Red-tailed Hawk (soaring above the preserve, also very vocal)

Red-bellied Woodpecker
Downy Woodpecker
Hairy Woodpecker
Northern Flicker
Pileated Woodpecker
Blue Jay
American Crow
Black-capped Chickadee
Tufted Titmouse
Red-breasted Nuthatch (several present for at least two weeks)
    White-breasted Nuthatch
Brown Creeper (2)
Carolina Wren (~4)
WINTER WREN (1) (nice, close visual)
Golden-crowned Kinglet
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET
Eastern Bluebird
American Robin (~24)
Cedar Waxwing (~20)

Northern Cardinal (9, including 3 juvenile males)
